2. Cookies on the DanceGecko website (dancegecko.com)

When you visit dancegecko.com, we may use the following types of cookies:

2.1 Strictly necessary cookies

These cookies are required for the website to function and cannot be disabled. They include:

• Session state: Temporary session identifiers used to maintain basic website functionality.
• Security tokens: Used to protect against cross-site request forgery (CSRF).

Legal basis (GDPR): Legitimate interest in operating a functional and secure website.

2.2 Analytics cookies

We use PostHog (privacy-respecting, cookieless analytics mode where possible) to understand how visitors interact with our website — which pages are visited, how long visitors stay, and which referral sources bring users to the site. This data is pseudonymous and does not identify you personally.

• Provider: PostHog (EU-hosted)
• Data collected: Pages visited, time on page, referral source, browser type, screen resolution (no IP address stored beyond the session)
• Retention: Up to 24 months
• Opt-out: You can opt out by enabling "Do Not Track" in your browser settings, which we honor.

Legal basis (GDPR): Legitimate interest in understanding website traffic to improve our product.

2.3 Font and asset delivery

We load the Inter font family from Google Fonts. Google Fonts may log your IP address when delivering font files. We are evaluating self-hosting fonts to eliminate this entirely in a future update.

• Provider: Google Fonts (Alphabet Inc.)
• Data collected: IP address, browser user-agent, referral URL (logged transiently by Google)
• Google Fonts Privacy: developers.google.com/fonts/faq/privacy

2.4 Cookies we do NOT use

We do not use:

• Advertising or retargeting cookies (Facebook Pixel, Google Ads, TikTok Pixel)
• Social media tracking cookies
• Third-party profiling cookies
• Fingerprinting or cross-site tracking technologies

3. The DanceGecko iOS App

The DanceGecko iOS app does not use browser cookies. The app uses:

• IDFV (Identifier for Vendor): Apple's pseudonymous device identifier, used to associate your generations with your subscription. This resets if you uninstall the app.
• UserDefaults: Local on-device storage for app preferences (e.g., onboarding completion status, selected language). This data never leaves your device.

The app does not use IDFA (Apple's advertising identifier) and does not display an App Tracking Transparency prompt.

4. Managing cookies

You can control cookies through your browser settings:

• Chrome: Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies and other site data
• Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
• Firefox: Options → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
• Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Cookies and site data

Blocking strictly necessary cookies may impair website functionality. Blocking analytics cookies will not affect your ability to use the site or download the app.

You can also opt out of Google Fonts data collection by using a browser extension that blocks Google Fonts requests, or by waiting for our self-hosted font update.

5. Do Not Track

We honor the "Do Not Track" (DNT) browser signal. If DNT is enabled in your browser, we disable PostHog analytics collection for your session.

6. Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy as our website evolves. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
